I want to share one of my personal favorite mantras with you. It has brought me much comfort and healing. For many years I thought if I could just get myself into perfect shape, I wouldn't have any health issues whatsoever. Maybe I could reach some kind of untouched place free of sickness or disease. If I could be free of that then wouldn't my life be perfect?
If I didn't exercise or missed a day, I would feel something was missing and I felt wrong. I was a prisoner to this obsession. I wasn't even enjoying walking in my beautiful neighborhood. I was just checking it off my cardio weekly schedule.
I used to think if I had the perfect diet including lots of raw cabbage and cruciferous veggies, I would have boundless energy. Turns out when you have hypothyroidism, meaning low thyroid levels, steaming your vegetables is better for you. I was told my thyroid was low but I was sure I could fix it on my own. I refused for a whole year to go on medication. I was going to beat it! I hadn't done any research on this condition because I refused to accept it. So I ate more raw vegetables and power bars while I was on tour singing and basically burned my thyroid right out. Turns out the soy and peanuts in my power bars I was eating on the run and traveling, were not good for me either.
I used to think if I needed any medication it meant I was not doing what I needed to do to be healthy enough. I had to reach that plateau of perfection. I was blown away when a someone who I thought was the pillar of health and never got sick because of a vegetarian diet and could manifest anything, took an over-the-counter sinus medication. When she took antibiotics my brain blew up!
Meditation and physical exercise are really good for you and add longevity to your life. They are part of my core practice that also includes regular journaling and connecting to my spirituality through prayer, ritual and using oracle cards.
My focus now is health and wellness. I traded my 12 and 15 lb. weights in for 3's, 5's and 8's. I stopped doing my military style workout and I am in the best shape I have ever been in. I do push myself but if I am super tired I don't force it. I need rest at that point and that is the best thing I could do for myself.
I enjoy dancing to Led Zeppelin and riding my pink Cruiser bike which I absolutely adore. It has a bell on it. People smile when they see it and I smile when I ride it. It's bad-ass! Mine has silver fenders on it.
Be kind to yourself. Be loving to your body. It will be with you forever and needs love, attention and acceptance.
Have a beautiful week!
